Greg Victor

CEO & FOUNDER

Greg Victor worked as a journalist for 35 years, as publications director and U.N. Correspondents Association liaison for the Committee to Protect Journalists, and as East Asia representative for the American Friends Service Committee before founding IFEP in 2016. He mentored foreign journalists for 20 years under the auspices of the Alfred Friendly Press Partnership and sits on the partnership’s advisory board. Victor also curated the poetry side of a 2016 art-poetry gallery exhibition and book titled “Verse Envisioned.” He holds a master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia University, a bachelor's degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and was a 1988-89 Gannett Foundation Asian Studies Journalism Fellow at the University of Hawaii.

Shawn Amsler

REAL ESTATE REPRESENTATIVE

Shawn Amsler has more than 20 years of experience in real estate development, investment and construction management in the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. His work has included financial feasibility analysis, preconstruction oversight and strategic advisory services. His projects have included the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study in Hollywood, Calif.; the Four Seasons Anguilla Resort in the British West Indies; and the Castello di Casole in Tuscany, Italy, which was recognized in 2017 by Travel+Leisure as the Best Resort Hotel in Europe. Amsler serves on the adjunct faculty of Columbia University, Syracuse University, the Fordham Real Estate Institute, and New York University. He holds a master’s degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Alex Bandar

MAKERSPACE & ARTIST STUDIO ADVISOR

Alex Bandar is an engineer, materials scientist, founder of Columbus Idea Foundry in Columbus, Ohio, and an international evangelist for the Maker Movement. He describes the Foundry makerspace as “essentially a machine shop with a maitre d' ... a place where people can feel warm and welcome to learn how to use novel equipment to explore new hobbies or businesses.” He previously worked for a software company as a "computational metallurgist" writing computer programs that simulate manufacturing processes. Bandar consults and speaks widely on the Maker Movement, Grassroots Entrepreneurship and Democratic Innovation at forums such as the 2015 Mazda Challengers Conference for Nobel Peace Laureates in Barcelona, Spain, and the 2014 Intelligent Cities Forum in New York City.

Daria Locher

CREATIVE COORDINATOR

A recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Daria Locher studied the confluence of language, cultural values, and foreign policy. Having lived in France and Russia over the past decade, Daria pursued her academic interests in a thesis titled "Winged out of Woe from Wit: The Entrance of Literary Phrases into Russia’s Oral History." In 2019, she delved into the international free expression field while writing for Transparency International-Moscow and teaching media literacy at the American Center of the Moscow U.S. Embassy. Before joining IFEP, Daria worked as a contributing reporter with the US Press Freedom Tracker of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Amir Zwickel

MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS
DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT

Amir Zwickel is co-founder of and chief real estate officer for SHOWFIELDS, an immersive retail experience with locations in New York and Miami. Showfields shares many similarities to IFEP’s proposed Marketplace of Ideas. It combines mission-driven retail, pop-up shops, art exhibitions, theatrical experiences, food and drink, community and charitable events, and a robust online sales operation. Showfields is an expression of Zwickel’s concept of "C" Commerce, which encompasses Convenience, Curation, Content, Community and Connection. Zwickel previously co-founded Co-NY RED, a New York real estate development firm. He holds a master’s degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University, a master’s degree in Political Science from Tel Aviv University and master’s degrees in Law and Business from IDC Herzliya in Herzliya, Israel.

Juliandra Jones

CURATOR/DESIGNER

Juliandra Jones is an artist, muralist and proprietor of PBJ Customs, which “creates custom art for custom people.” She is a self-taught artist and holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and pre-law from the University of Nevada, Reno. She began to explore social justice through her artwork after moving to Pittsburgh, where her pieces have been exhibited in prominent local venues such as the Canvas of Words series, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Showcase Noir and RAW Artists presents: MAGNIFY. Jones also paints live while interacting with audiences, participating in performances such as The Black Student Unions’ Sip & Paint (Binghamton, NY), Canvas of Words College Tour (Erie, PA), and FreshFest DigiFest (Pittsburgh, PA). Jones’ first project for IFEP is the curation and design of an exhibit of Black artists’ work titled There is Black Art in the Future, which opens in June 2021 on the facade of the Pitt Building in Downtown Pittsburgh.
