All of IFEP's four core initiatives are being internationally crowdsourced in design and operation, drawing on the ideas and imaginations of people from around the world and from all walks of life. IFEP is working to ...
1. ERECT A GLOBAL SYMBOL OF FREE EXPRESSION, the world's first iconic work of public art symbolizing free expression. It will stand at the one of the most beautiful locations in North America: The confluence of three rivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It will employ cutting-edge technology so that it can programmed and reprogrammed from anywhere to appear as almost anything — from original works of art to the faces and stories of people being persecuted for speaking their minds. It also will generate renewable energy.

2. BUILD A MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS, which is envisioned as a unique combination of food hall; tavern; artisan market; art gallery; performance venue; theatre; film house; maker space and event venue sprinkled with immersive educational activities — an explosion of expression. It also will be uniquely situated — in a vast, historic, block-long former newspaper pressroom at the front entrance to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
3. INVENT NEW EDUCATIONAL TOOLS that will be encountered throughout the Marketplace and consist of interactive displays, e-games and robots that entertain while driving home the elemental importance of free expression. Some will provide ways to immediately take action on behalf of writers, journalists, artists, musicians and filmmakers who are being threatened or persecuted. These tools will be road-tested in the Marketplace and then made available for the use of teachers and advocacy organizations everywhere.
4. SUPPORT ARTISTS BY COMMISSIONING ORIGINAL WORKS that will be displayed and sold in the Marketplace, online, at popup exhibits and elsewhere. One goal is to make the Marketplace financially self-sustaining, with revenues from beverage and food sales, artwork and keepsake sales, event rentals, performances, memberships and other sources.
